Phases of Neoplasia

Neoplastic Progression

The figure above shows the development of neoplasia from a precursor state to "intraepithelial neoplasia" and then finally to an invasive neoplasia. Bacus Laboratories developed methods to measure intraepithelial neoplasia, i.e. measurements that quantitate the development of the neoplastic process before it becomes metastatic. This is described inĀ "Bacus J W; Bacus J V; Stoner G D; Moon R C; Kelloff G J; Boone C W. Quantitation of preinvasive neoplastic progression in animal models of chemical carcinogenesis. Journal of Cellular Biochemistry SupplementĀ (28-29):21-38, 1997", and in "Bacus, J.W., Bacus J.V.: Method and Apparatus for Testing a Progression of Neoplasia Including cancer Chemoprevention Testing. U.S. Patent 6,031,930. 2000".
